10 Years Ago Today...

Last night before bed, I told Cameron that 10 years ago I was writhing in pain, waiting for an epidural to get me through to his arrival :) It's true! He didn't believe me :) I had gone to church that night; I had done some serious exercising with the kids during gametime, trying to get something going (Jan 22nd was his due date and I was ready -- Kelsie was 3 weeks early, so I had been expecting Cam for 3 weeks -- never do that.) Anyway, it was at the end of the AWANA night, I was sitting on the piano bench, helping give out the awards for the night when it happened! My water broke! Yuck! I won't go into the ugly details, but I had a lot water in there! We called my brother and he met us up at church to get Kelsie. All was well. THEN...yikes...the pain began. Well, the rest is history. I got the epidural...Cam was born at 2:57 am at St. John's Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis. It's been a wonderful adventure ever since. Happy Birthday Cam...Love, Mommy

Look how he's grown! It's gone by so fast too.

The Polls are closing and...Kelsie's Basketball Debut

Well, the first polls on my blog have started to close. 7 people picked the Patriots to win today, 1 lonely dreamer picked San Diego. Patriots win. At the time of this writing, for some reason there is still 1 hour left to vote on the Giants/Packer game. Obviously a sentimental bunch of Giants fans read my blog as they have been picked by 6 readers to win, vs. 2 picks for the favored Packers. At this writing, the game is tied -- 20/20 in the 4th quarter. Poor Tom Coughlin (Giants' head coach) -- give him a nose warmer!!! I have never seen anyone look so COLD. Rightfully so, though, it's about 0 degrees in Green Bay. THIS JUST IN: Kelsie thought the Giants were wearing the ugly green "OUTFITS" and therefore has been rooting for the Packers --- she now takes it back -- she prefers the white "OUTFITS", therefore the Giants. (Where did I go wrong?) As I move to Kelsie playing her first bball game of the season, try not to hold this against her...she really is an athlete :)

So, she had her first game yesterday...it was a nail biter as you will see:

The coach said, "It's that one important thing...just that one important thing". Was Heather really listening? Was Kelsie listening? Hmmmm, inquiring minds want to know.....

It's all about position under the basket!

Kelsie's team started out behind early -- score was 12-2 after the first period (in this league they play 6 periods)....but they came back with a vengeance and ....

Did they...or didn't they??????

YES, They did! They must have been listening after all (we were "home" by the way).

And crowed went wild! Ok, they really did, but I didn't have my camera out until it had died down a little bit. It was a fun game...even if it did start at 8:00 AM! Yes, that's in the morning!

Number 12...Number 25...

This past Saturday, basketball and volleyball started. It was a fun, busy day. Kelsie's volleyball tournament started at 8:30 so she couldn't make her 1st basketball game :( But her 1st tournament was very exciting and very enlightening. Kenny & I "play" on a volleyball team...but THIS was a volleyball team! Wow, it's amazing to watch these girls play real positions, have "plays", etc. I can't wait to see how they improve too.

After Kenny coached Kelsie's basketball team (minus Kelsie) (they won BIG, by the way), he headed to Kelsie's tourney (Cam went to a bday party, thanks for picking him up, Ron); then to pick Cam up and head to Cam's basketball game. I left Kelsie's tourney a little early to make Cam's game and it was a great game! The coach had those boys ready to play :) and they played! Cam scored 2 baskets and was an outstanding ball handler :)

The 1st of many fun...and busy Saturdays....
IDOL...IS ON! Oh to have to choose between Idol and the Michigan primary -- thank goodness for DVR!
Oh, & I figured out how to put some "polls" up on the blog (I copied Tricia's idea) :) -- just for some fun...

Great Adventure Book Club

I am proud to announce that my friend Vicky Klaus has launched her new business venture! Vicky is a teacher at Living Word Christian School. I am so excited for her and invite you all to check out her website:

http://greatadventurebookclub.com/index.php?main_page=index

I have it bookmarked over to the right too for later use.

I was supposed to be her 1st customer, but when I ordered last night, I was number 2! Her sister Dori beat me to it :) Vicky's goal is to provide Christian schools, homeschoolers, and parents with a selection of books that increase a love for reading, enrich learning and promote godly character -- what more could we want for our kids? There are also parent resources too -- I ordered 'The Five Love Languages of Teenagers' -- did you know I will have a full-fledged teenager in about 3 weeks or so? EEK!

Book selections will be changing regularly so make sure you check back often :)

READ ON!

Weather WOW!

I don't know what the record high for this date is, but we had to have passed it up today. The thermometer in our car said 73 degrees when we were driving home from church and I am sure it got even warmer. Cameron & I played baseball in the backyard in shorts & t-shirts this afternoon, it was amazing!

I must give several January birthday shoutouts while I am on here. My sister's bday just passed; Jessica is sweet 16 today; Taylor and Kenny C. both have birthdays later in the month...that leaves me with Cameron on the 22nd. Hopefully I didn't miss anyone. I hope all of you have great days!

Countdowns

As I watch a little "Special Report with Brit Hume" I am reminded that Iowans are only 1 day away from their caucuses. So much can be said, so many arguments can be made. Rather than dwell on that right now, I will announce...

Only 13 days 'til IDOL!!!

It was back to work for me today. Although I could have used one more day off (oh yeah, I am off tomorrow), I was so thankful for the good health to get out of bed this morning. It's time to get back into a routine. We had such a good time the past few days, spending it with good friends and a lot of it with just the 4 of us, that was nice -- movies, a puzzle, chit chat, more movies, it was really great. A nice "end" to a great Christmas season. Kenny is off to New York tomorrow, so his season isn't quite over yet -- he is looking forward to that trip, so watch out Mom H, you know how he is with his plans. Just try and enjoy it :)

So, Happy New Year to us all. Here's hoping that we have something good to talk about coming out of Iowa, and that this Idol season is the best one yet! Can they really top Carrie Underwood?
